It’s that time of year again – time to show that special someone that they matter to you. What better way to do that than to plan a healthy, active date night? Your Boyd pain and wellness team (locations also in Benbrook, Bedford and Flower Mound) is here to help you out with some great ideas! Read on to learn about our top five favorite active date night ideas. (Bonus: These aren’t just for Valentine’s Day, either – feel free to bookmark this post for ideas that work any time of year!)
Take a Moonlight Stroll
This is a fantastic choice for couples who like to stay active but prefer more of a relaxed pace. An additional bonus is that the location options are nearly endless. Chat ahead of time about whether you prefer more of a city-lights or nature-soaked vibe. Here are some of our top picks to get your ideas flowing:
- Along the beach
- Through your favorite city
- In a local park
- In your neighborhood
- With your dogs (on leash or at a dog park)
Jump Around at a Trampoline Park
They’re not just for kids! Trampoline parks are a large indoor collection of stationary “bounce-ables” that offer a fun and entertaining time. Do a little research before you choose your location. Some locations offer more than just trampolines – parks may also house ninja warrior courses, food and drink options and sports courts (set on trampolines, of course).
Check out the location’s website ahead of time to find out about hours, cost and any health restrictions to be aware of. If you are over 65 years old, have an existing heart condition or are pregnant, it may be a good idea to get your doctor’s approval first. We have Boyd doctors accepting new patients (locations also in Benbrook, Bedford and Flower Mound) if you don’t currently have a primary care provider.
Try Out a Dance Class
Whether you have a natural rhythm or not, a dance class is always a good option for a romantic, active date night. The best part is that there is a wide variety of styles to choose from, too, so even a veteran dancer can try something new. You can even plan on going out to a club after your lesson to try out your new moves in a fresh setting!
- Hip hop
- Ballroom
- Salsa
- Irish Dancing
- Swing
This activity will require some planning in advance. Not many dance studios offer walk-in options. Be sure to investigate park and recreation programs, too – many times these will be a more affordable option.
Rent a Tandem Bike
Try a fun twist on an old favorite this Valentine’s Day weekend – instead of biking separately, try renting a tandem bike! We love this idea because it not only challenges a relationship physically, but it may also grow a couple mentally and emotionally. Any time a couple has to work together to accomplish one goal, it strengthens the relationship.
Try Rock Climbing
If you’ve never tried rock climbing before, get ready to be hooked after the first try. Climbing is a unique activity because it offers a dynamic blend of muscle strengthening and strategic thinking. If chess and calisthenics had a baby, rock climbing would be it.
Many indoor climbing facilities will offer several different routes in varying difficulty, allowing a beginner to climb right alongside an expert. If heights aren’t your thing or you’re brand new to climbing, consider trying bouldering. Bouldering gives you the same type of workout while keeping you less than six feet off the ground. Call ahead to find out if the location you are considering offers equipment rental. Save time by filling out the waiver/release form ahead of time if you can.
