What Are the Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

When your hormones are imbalanced, your whole world can feel imbalanced. From weight gain to libido, hormone levels are crucial to how you live your life. But with bioidentical hormone therapy, you can balance your hormone levels and get back to living life to the fullest. Here at Herrera Medical Group in Flower Mound, TX, we’re proud to offer this incredible, simple treatment.

What Are the Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

When it comes to hormone therapy, the list of benefits goes on and on. Patients find that their mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing greatly improves upon starting treatment. That’s because so many issues associated with aging can actually be attributed to hormone imbalance.

For example, it’s commonly thought that getting older means getting a foggier brain and weaker memory. But this treatment can offer newfound mental clarity and aid your ability to remember things. Likewise, if you’re feeling constantly tired, you can enjoy more energy and stamina. Even your low libido can be restored. And with these results constantly developing as your hormone levels continue to adjust, there’s so much to look forward to!

Other benefits may include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Thicker and faster-growing hair
  • Weight loss and stabilization
  • Decreased bloating
  • Reduced hot flashes
  • Increased energy
  • Emotional stability
  • Better sleep
  • Better skin

What Exactly Is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

This incredible anti-aging treatment rebalances hormones that your body has lost due to aging. It does this using bioidentical hormones, which are identical matches of hormones that the body naturally produces. Throughout the treatment, your body’s hormone levels won’t just return to their previous state but will reach optimal levels so you can enjoy your life like never before. Our expert team at Herrera Medical Group will explain and guide you through the entire process.

Is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy the Same Thing As Hormone Replacement Therapy?

As mentioned above, this treatment relies on bioidentical hormones to balance hormones in the body. Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant sources, making them a natural, healthy option that works seamlessly within the body’s processes. Patients very rarely react negatively to these hormones and their bodies are unlikely to reject them.

In contrast to this, hormone replacement therapy uses synthetic hormones, which are made up of both natural and unnatural sources. These synthetic hormones only mimic the functions of real hormones, not match them, and so they can cause negative side effects. For this reason, BHRT is widely preferred among candidates, as they won’t have to worry about any additional symptoms while they’re being treated.

How Does This Treatment Work?

Before

Ahead of your actual treatment, we’ll ask you to come in for a consultation. This is your chance to tell us all about your symptoms, so we can make an informed decision as to whether treatment will be the best course of action to treat them. We’ll examine your medical history and any medication you might be on, just to make sure you’re eligible.

We’ll likely take a small sample of blood to test your hormones, which will give us an understanding of what hormones require balancing. We may instead take a sample of your saliva or urine.

During Treatment

This treatment can be administered in several forms, such as patches, tablets, creams and gels, pellet, or injections. We’ll decide with you what treatment will work best for your concerns and lifestyle; some may require daily administering, while others – for example, a pellet – are implanted below the skin. All of them work to get into your body very quickly so you can start feeling their effects as soon as possible.

If we are putting a pellet under the skin, we’ll usually insert it around the hip where there’s some fatty tissue. After cleaning the treatment area, we’ll make a small incision and then carefully place the pellet just below the skin’s surface. A small suture is used to close the incision, and then you’re all done! It rarely takes longer than thirty minutes.

As Your Treatment Progresses

Generally, our patients start to notice changes in about two weeks after starting therapy. Throughout this process, it’s important that you keep a record of how you’re feeling, including any changes you notice and how your symptoms are affected. This information will let us know if treatment is working, and if we need to make any changes to your dosages.

After a few weeks, we’ll test your hormones to track how your body’s adjusted and if we need to make any changes. In doing so, we can ensure you’re getting the most out of this treatment and feeling your absolute best. And don’t forget that you can contact us whenever you need if you want to ask questions or make any requests. Our expert team is always here to help!

What Steps Can I Take To Make This Treatment Most Effective?

As well as the actual medicinal part of your bioidentical hormone therapy, you may be required to make some changes to your lifestyle to see optimal improvements. We’ll help you figure out exactly what this will involve when we design your treatment plan.

Excercise

Did you know that just 30 minutes of exercise a day is all it takes to see significant changes to your health? When combined with hormone replacement therapy, regular exercise can greatly improve your body’s hormonal balance. And it doesn’t need to be anything too crazy – simply going for walks and lifting light weights will do the trick. If you’re looking for more of a challenge that will increase your stamina and promote lean muscle gain, you can work up weights until you’re lifting heavier.

Diet

It may not surprise you to learn that food can affect your hormones in significant ways. Foods that are good sources of magnesium are particularly good, such as seeds, leafy vegetables, and legumes. You can even look into a meal plan to help you enjoy the foods that keep you healthy while still being delicious.

What Can Bioidentical Hormone Therapy Treat?

You might find it hard to keep up with exactly how your body is changing, or struggle to remember exactly what you felt like when you were at your peak. But if any of the following sound like things you’ve experienced or wrestled with, you may have a hormone imbalance that this treatment can work to rectify. This list is not exhaustive, but just some of the most common symptoms of a hormone imbalance this treatment can resolve include:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Brain fog/memory loss
  • Weight gain/slowing metabolism
  • Low libido
  • Insomnia/lack of sleep/poor sleep quality
  • Lethargy
  • Signs of aging
  • Hair loss
  • Emotional instability
  • Hot flashes
  • Struggling to gain muscle/lose weight
  • Bloating
  • Lethargy

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

Hormone imbalances don’t discriminate based on gender. The fact is, as we age our bodies lose their abilities to produce certain hormones. Not only does a person’s wellbeing decline as a result of this, but it speeds up the aging process. For men, middle age brings it with this decline, usually at around 45, when drops in hormones like testosterone become more noticeable and lead to many of the symptoms mentioned above.

For women, decreased hormone production in middle age is more widely known as menopause. While it’s inevitable, it’s not something you have to suffer through. many of our female patients enjoy bioidentical hormone therapy and find themselves thriving at a time they always imagined would be very taxing.

But age isn’t the only thing we consider. Some people experience hormone imbalances much younger as the result of things like genetics, diet, and chronic illnesses. If you have experienced any of the symptoms listed above, it’s still worth coming in and having a consultation with our team. Taking a blood or saliva test will be the quickest way to figure out the cause of your concerns. And if that’s not a hormonal imbalance, we can suggest a number of alternative treatments that can set you on a path to feeling rejuvenated again.
